DEFINITION OF DEPARTMENT

THE DEPARTMENT OF MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY IS DEFINED AS FOLLOWS, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR CRANIOMAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY (EACMFS):

dentoalveolar surgery, including periodontology
treatment of infections affecting the bones and soft tissues of the head and neck area
treatment of craniomaxillofacial injuries (bones, teeth and soft tissues), both the injuries themselves and their consequences
oral pathology/oral medicine
preprosthetic surgery, including implantology
surgical and non-surgical treatment of temporomandibular joint diseases and temporomandibular disorders
oncological surgery and treatment in the head and neck area, including benign and malignant salivary gland tumors and treatment of lymph nodes
regional reconstructive surgery including the collection of soft and hard tissue grafts and free flap transfers involving microsurgery
orthognathic surgery
aesthetic, cosmetic and plastic facial surgery
surgery and treatment of congenital abnormalities, including cleft lip and palate (in the Slovak Republic, traditionally, treatment of post-cleft dentofacial deformities within cleft centers, possibly plastic surgery departments)
